SKY IMAGES

SHILPA GUPTA

For my final piece I aim to recreate this idea by Shilpa Gupta. these images are images of the sky that she has taken and then layered with objects. I have already taken some images in this style however that was with overlaying while editing that I added the objects over images of the sky. I aim to take images of the sky and then layer black objects over those images. I could either add a frame with the black objects inside the frames or print out the images a second time and then frame those images. I could take the images together as for a final piece their should only be one large outcome, so however I take the first images, the final idea is to recapture them framed then print that image out and frame that as a final piece. For the final piece the images on the second stage could also be surrounded by tape as this would still create the same theme of the white frame/lines around the images, however the frames would not correspond with the frame on the final piece.

I took these images using a CANON EOS M100. I was quite happy with the amount of different images I ended up with however many of the images were either under-exposed or were exposed but had shadow over the printed paper as the light source came from a angle behind the objects I placed on the paper. The borders between the images were ok, but I would have preferred to have larger images as I could then have added paper frame/cardboard frames that would appear more as her images already in the raw images. Overall, I was not unhappy with the outcome of the photoshoot, but the images were not very successful.

DEVELOPMENTS

I edited these images using both Adobe Photoshop CS6 and PHS2022. I wanted to edit these images to have the appearance of Shilpa Gupta's sky images. the one image on the left was edited with a digital frame and the rest were different images I edited which were one or more panels of her sky images. I liked the images but the shadow from the objects over the paper did cause some problems when editing the image, which could be slightly fixed with the curve tool. I also used 'cold/blueish' filters so that when I increased the curve and brightness the blue sky in the background was still visible, and the white and blue theme was still present in the images.
