HIGHLIGHTING SUCCESS

Success's of these photos were that I was able to capture a white background and a wide-range of photos for Shilpa Gupta´s images. The colour and how they were framed (with the background colour) went well together. Objects that are not usually together went well due to the colour/shade scheme of these images. The texture of the image for Wolfgang Tillmans and its similarity to his usual style was a success of that photo as it appeared similarly to his underwater images. Further more, I was able to capture it with heavy/strong blur in the background so that it appeared plain and those images appeared underwater. I found that the effects of the human Tien Lee images was very successful and I was happy with the outcome of those images and using those effects over a image such as the Naomi White images next to it would make a development similar to the aims of my final piece. the Naomi White image had very nice aspects such as the colour, vibrancy and exposure.

IDEA 1 :

NWR12.jpg
WTPR3.jpg

Develop more of these simple edits in the style of Naomi White and also experiments with folding the paper and taking similar images to the paper developments for Wolfgang Tillmans. I liked both of these types of images and I found they were two simple but successful images and they both explored with abstract shapes and objects and the theme of this portfolio. this photoshoot would include the objects/fabrics that I used for my Naomi White images and folding them in front of a camera (also taking images of it in weird shapes and including a bright centre, a bright outer edge, a highly exposed background and a low exposed midground with high saturation and vibrant colour). This is my first idea for my final piece for my identity portfolio.

CONTACT SHEET

ContactSheet-001.jpg

I took these images with a Canon EOS M100. I was happy wit the outcome of these images. they did have text on them however I thought that these images would be good first developments images as if I found this idea successful I could extend it with a re-draft. the images were well exposed and after adding colour and glow their are not many aspects I would change about these images. It will be important for their not to be an overflowing amount of colours in one image as if there are multiple printed out for my final piece one with lots of editing won't appear as well and I would rather have a successful collection of images to frame together. When editing the images I will also consider what colours go well together and how these can then be developed so that when printed out they can appear as a collection (such as in Shilpa Gupta's work) and not seperate developments,

DEVELOPMENTS

I edited these images with photoshop 2022 and I took the raw images for my final piece first idea. I found that these developments were quite successful and after making these developments I was happy with the outcome of these images. However when capturing the images, using a bag with text on it was personally not a good idea as in some images I did not like the text and I added gaussian blur, which meant the aspects such as the 'wrinkle's' in the image fabric was not able to be seen. However, I was happy that I used the colour and hue tools in these images as I found that the colours and hue's achieved are the most successful aspect. Additionally, adding subtle contrast and increasing and decreasing the brightness helped the images show the aspects such as folds in the plastic. I would like to do a redraft for this first idea to explore more with what these images could appear as for my final piece.

REDRAFT CONTACT SHEET

ContactSheet-001.jpf

These are some of the images I took for my final piece idea 1 redraft (the rest were not able to upload). I took these images with bin bags and inside the plastic instead of portrait images. I took the images from birds ye view and changed and moved the plastic for multiple different images. I took the images with very neutral light in the background so that the tones when adding a filter would not be to saturated and I could make developments that are less edited for a better outcome. The images were taken with no light source and there was not much light in the room other than light from the left of the images from the room beside. These images were more successful than the last images I took for idea 1.

DEVELOPMENTS

I edited these images using Adobe Photoshop 2022. I edited the images from my contact sheet and others that I had taken in a similar style. Due to all the images having low light and colour in the background I was able to control and adjust the hue's freely. I found that starting by using the colour look up tool and then using the filter 'tension green in most images' I could then use the hue tool to change the base colour to almost any tone / hue. I liked the outcome of these image sand I found most of these images successful in achieving what I wanted for this first Idea, however in my opinion the other ideas and how they have been executed will appear as better overall developments of showing both Naomi White and Wolfgang Tillmans (- written after having seen Idea 2 ).

IDEA 2 :

WT2.jpg

I took this image and edited it in my last photoshoot for my Wolfgang Tillmans identity project. this was one of the most successful developments in my whole portfolio and editing and experimenting with this type of image for my final piece could turn out as a final piece. Overall, the aim is to create similar images to these however show more of the bags/fabrics to combine the theme of Naomi White. (also framing them to fit Shilpa Gupta's style).

CONTACT SHEET

ContactSheet-002.jpg

I took these images using a projector and plastic bags. I used the projector by finding a video of gradient overlays and movements and playing it on the projector. It would then project it onto a white wall where I had to adjust it ,depending on the plastic, multiple times. I hung plastic up with tape on the wall, moving it at multiple points in the photoshoot. The aim is to invert these images and create similar images to my images at the end of the Wolfgang Tillman page, however create more colourful developments that will appear more as a final piece than an experimental development.

PROCESS LOG

PL1.jpg

1

First I imported the image onto photoshop CS6.

PL2.jpg

I then inverted the image using 'shift i' and added a filter using the colour look up adjustment tool.

2

PL3.jpg

I then cropped the images white bars out so that the image had no empty spaces.

3

PL4.jpg

I then flattened the image so that I could add a iris blur tool. and then I adjusted the blur tool to '76' where I added the tool around the main subject.

4

PL5.jpg

5

I then used the adjustment tools 'hue tool/adjust and colour lookup' after I had finished adjusting with those tools the image appeared blue. (I used the 'siennia blue' filter in colour lookup, and the hue tool at : -65 ).

PL6.jpg

6

After all those process's were done I cropped the image to where I found it would appear most successful (leaving this to the last step as it is then I can best judge what areas to crop out) and then I exported the image as a image for this group of developments.

DEVELOPMENTS

I edited these images using Adobe Photoshop CS6 and I aimed to create images similar to my fourth developments for my main Wolfgang Tillmans page. I was happy with the outcome of these images. Some were more successful and some were less successful, however as this is a final piece not every image will be printed out. I found that the I was able to make one or two developments from each raw image, which made it easier and quicker to experiment with different colours, hues, shades, and exposures. I also used subtle blur and gaussian blur (using the blur tool to draw in areas where I couldn't adjust the iris blur tool too).

HIGHLIGHTING SUCCESS

' DEVELOPMENT FOR IDEA 2 PHOTOSHOOT NUMBER 6 '

I took this image in my first photoshoot for my idea 2 for my final piece. I found this developments from an angle of 270 degrees appears as if there is a green volcano, which is one aspect which interested me and made me happy with the outcome. Additionally, the double tones/hue's of green and yellow went well together and was a gradual mix rather than a clear distinction between which areas were which tone. there was not much other editing technique's used in the edit other than 'iris blur' around the subject of the image. This is in my opinion one of the most successful developments from the developmenst above for idea 2.

IDEA 3 :

My third idea is to take a video of a plastic bag from an angle in front or above a bag or from inside the bag. Then edit the colour changing the hue throughout it. It will also change the amount of light in the video throughout the video and have a video that shows the ideas of plastic light and hue. To further develop this video and show the aspects of Wolfgang Tillmans aswell, I could invert the video and have two separate videos for my final piece or have one video that is inverted and is a final piece that explores both the ideas of the two artists Wolfgang Tillmans and Naomi White in one video.
