COMBINING JENNIS LI CHENG TIEN

Jennis Cheng Tien Lee is a Taiwanese photographer and editor who now is renowned for her digital work on editing random people into unrecognisable images. She now works in Berlin and has a group of photo's in her own style that she has called 'Have a Nice Day' . This collection was from 2010 and is a collection of very unique images that I found stand out. Her images include colour, distortion and identity in a way that is not explored in many other artist's images as her main theme is no recognisability in her work.
I chose to do her style of work for my identity page as I found it visually very interesting and a aspect of photography that went somewhat well with the ideas of Wolfgang Tillmans art. She uses aspects of recognisable images and making them unrecognisable. She uses blur, glow, posterise tools and liquifying. She changes the main aspects of people in images by not only changing the shapes and forms, but the colour by inverting greens, yellows and many other colours.
In her work she takes images of people who are posed or random people either found on the internet or from areas outside. She then inverts them to a point where not even the person in the original image would recognise them. Her images are captured using a digital camera and editing the images on photoshop and other platforms. Her work uses very vibrant colours that use multiple different combinations of colours, such as Shilpa Gupta's work. Another aspect of her work is blur and liquifying, which I find helps her work appear more 'glitchy' and more successful as the 'posterise' does not stand out in such a way it appears more as if it is a drawing.
CONTACT SHEET

I took these images with a Canon EOS M100. I took images similar to my last photoshoot for Wolfgang Tillmans as this was what was used in both my work for Tillmans and in some images I did for Naomi White. I found the first images were very underexposed and did not capture the right aspects. Further more, in all images I could have though more about what setting was used for ISO as not many images were that successful with lighting. As this is only the first photoshoot, after making the developments I could decide to take another photoshoot considering the aspects, which went wrong in this photoshoot. However, there are some images in this photoshoot that I am happy with, as at the end of the dark images I changed the settings to portrait so I could adjust the lighting more. I would have liked to use multiple bags as then I could have experimented with more shapes for this photoshoot. Overall, there is lots of aspects to consider for a better redraft and a successful final piece.
DEVELOPMENTS

I used ADOBE Photoshop CS6 to edit these photos and I took these images in the style of how I took images for Tillmans. I found that these images were kind of successful as they did not achieve all the aspects that I wanted for my images, because they appear as more of a combination of Naomi White's and Wolfgang Tillmans style than Naomi White's and Jennis Tien's style. Additionally, there were many steps that were over edited and I feel I could have edited them less and still have a successful outcome, however I am happy I experimented with Jennis Tien's style of work as it has helped me with aspects of editing in photoshop and how to possibly capture images for my final piece combining Wolfgang Tillmans and Naomi White.
