Femininity

/ˌfɛmɪˈnɪnɪti/

noun

  1. qualities or attributes regarded as characteristic of women.

My concept is to focus on how femininity is expressed and presented in images. I have chosen photographers such as: Maisie cousins and Annique Delphine, for the purpose of expanding on what they have already created and translating what they have created into words. What I have found most interesting is the way that they have so blatantly exclaimed their femininity, by using generally  feminine objects but using them in an irregular way.

What I have hopped to achieve through this unit is to express a more feminine side with the flowers yet present them in a different way, so they can present different characteristics which could either present a reference to sexuality as well; or to even convey a stronger message.

What I have found to be the most interesting thin g on this topic is how there is no limit on how you can present yourself or others. However a change in objects could massively impact the overall outcome, which presents how complexity of the subject. For example, if you use too much of food it could distract from the delicacy of femininity since there is still a larger focus on the food rather than presenting a more feminine image. What I also find to be very interesting is how subtle the effects can be, certain lightings have a massive change, for example the work of Annique Delphine is very different in therms of lighting in comparison to Mari Mahr.

What I am trying to convey is Femininity, and by doing so I am also paying homage to sexuality and also gender identity. All three of these topics coincide with each other, which suggest the complexity and beauty behind all of these subjects.

Fore expanse Gender identity, works with the power of  male and female themes or even more gender fluid powers; creating a more obscure presentation on the idea of gender.Sexuality is a more difficult topic to work with since it can be presented even in an accidental way since there is a vast variety of symbols with a strong affiliation with sexuality. However sexuality does not only focus on what you present but also the content of the character behind it. Along side with gender identity sexuality can present more gender fluid emotions or different portrayal of a masculine or feminine characteristic.

One of my fears with this unit is that not my representative portrayal of femininity will not come through in some of my photoshoots, since they are more subtle in comparison to others. In my opinion this topic is very important to present in photography, because femininity in some cases is seen as a weakness or and obstacle, which it is not. That is why I find it so important that I present a confident and clear presentation of femenininity since it is a very story characteristic and is also a trade that everyone is able to present. Photography allows for a different outlet for these emotions, which is why I have decided to give a stronger stand on femininity.
