Annique Delphine

Annique Delphene's work to me is very focused on being very famine and has a lot of uniqueness through what she does. She displays most of her work with flowers and with the flowers there are many things that she is able to portray. She makes it controversial in going agents the normal rules of photography ant through that she creates the magnificent work that she does.

She uses flowers and prosthetics with which she is able to make beautiful things that may not seem like they  are made to be beautiful. She reclamas what she defines as famine and makes it clear to the viewer what her views on what she wants to do.

The colors that she uses is very warm in tone and has a lot of power that is carried along with it. However in my opinion I think that she could use any tone of flower and background to crate the same style and the result is very dependent on angle and lighting.  Overall she has used some of the fairly minimalistic things, flowers and has been able to turn them into these intricate works of art, almost similar to Maisie Cousins but is defiantly different in the composition that they are put in.

Her work links to my idea of identity because of the activeness that is used in her work, alike to Maisie Cousins, in being very feminine and in using naturally beautiful things to create things that could be considered gross to an extent.

In conclusion I think that she is very talented in the way that she contrasts many different creations with flowers and she displays her work beautifuly.

Contact sheet - raw images

  • Too much high key lighting

  • Flowers blend in too much

  • Too similar/ not as successful as other photo

  • Too zoomed out

  • Blurred

  • Too much red

  • Not very interesting and is not very similar to the style

Throughout the photoshoot I have been focusing on using the lighting to my advantage and making sure that the composition of the flowers were complementary. I have decided to use red and blue lighting on a purple background so that there are contrasting colors and they will look more blended on the background. The one thing that I have found to be least successful in this photoshoot is the use of the liquid. What I should have done is created a large amount of it however there was not enough mad and did not stay on top of the flowers. I am still quite proud of the result as I have made the best use of it I could. The flowers that I used not only blended well with the lights It made a very nice contrast with each other as they were not all the same color. To improve on my work I will probably want to add more of a violet layer on top of my images to further the illusion that the lights are properly blending, and also to make a more realistic shadow if the lighting is too saturated with red.

Developments -
exploring cropping saturation, lighting and contrast

What I have done to edit the images is that I have increased the contrast and increased different color layers. The reason why I increased the contrast is because If I did not the blue and red would not have as much of a difference between them and it would look more like a blended effect, which it what I am trying to avoided because I want to create  more of a defined contrast between the two. The color of the plants create the possibility of having them blend with the light or stand out. There is more  high-key lighting so there needs to be more of a contrast between the different lights and tones. I only had to crop a few different images to that there was not to much blank space, because in Annique's pictures there is more positive space than negative space. In conclusion I think that these developments are successful.

Process log 1.jpg

Before I even think about editing the images I decide to analyze what I want to change about the image. Fore instance this image has very warm tones around it so if I change it so it has more cooler undertones in the shadows.  Another way that I want to edit this is to make it More vibrant.

Process log 2.jpg

Now I am editing this I will use: color balance to add more of a blue tone, Increase the saturation and Vibrancy to show the colors of the flower,  add a photo filler to accentuate the cool tone, finally I will use curves to darken the image to add a contrast between the highlights and the shadows.

Experimenting with cool tones

For these further developments, I have decided to change to tone of them, from warm tones to cool tones. Firstly I started of with brightening the image and then darken the reds so that they are less visible, that is what makes the blue brighter overall. In some cases I have also increased the contrast to create darker shadows. The majority of these images have turned out purple because of the amount of red that was originally in the flower. I believe that these developments are fairly successfully  and I have

  • Too much negative space.

  • Over saturated

  • lens is covered

  • Very bland

  • Too close up

  • Overly similar

  • Blurry

To capture these images I had to create a  background that would be able to complement the color of the lights. So in comparison to my previous photoshoot I have decided to choose a darker color to add more contrast rather than to blend with the lights. I have also heavily focused on the competition of the flowers and have also place the liquid more precisely and have made sure that there is not too much, for there not to be contrast.

Overall what I have attempted to do is to capture different images, however to still make them look like they were in the same area. What I believe to be the most successful part of this photoshoot is my use of contrasting lighting and use of positive and negative space and making sure that the lights do not just contrast but also complement each other.

Developments:

To edit these images I made sure that there were only subtle changes and that there was contrast. One of the first things that I did when I was editing these images was to increase the contrast of the overall image, so that there is a slight bit more saturation of the flowers and background. The increase of saturation emphasizes the relation between my images and the artist.

Progress log 1.jpg

To start of this redraft edit I again analyze what I want to change about it. I wanted to increase the vibrancy and saturation. To do that I also change the hue slightly so that I can clearly see if later on I want to change anything else about the image.

Progress log 2.jpg

I have now increased the amount of cyan that is in the image, so that there is more of a contrast between the warmer tones and the cooler tones. Moreover If I create more of a contrast  between the concentrated reds and blues, where the two colors meet will create a nice blending appeal to the images.

Progress log 3.jpg

I have now changed the image so that there is a cyan filter on top of the image to really emphasize the blue of the flower and also all of the shadows will be darkened which really helps with contrast. The blue also creates more of a shining effect on the liquid on the flower.

Progress log 4.jpg

Finally I have increased the brightness of the red/ warmer tones of the image and that also increases the brightness of the overlapping tones. Overall this final change really brings up the contrast of the background which makes the entire photo look more cohesive and complementary although it is contrasting colors.

Further developments- experimenting with colour

For these further developments I have decided to experiment with the color and tones of the images. Initially I thought about changing the composition of  the image, however now I decided to change the entire color of the images.

What I was thinking about mainly when I was changing the color is what colors contrast with each other, but also contrast.  The reason why I thought that is because if I did not I would not be able to create images that were pleasing to the eye . For instance, if I used a light shade of blue and a light shade of orange, the middle tone between the two would be brown.

futher progress log 1.jpg

For these further developments I am going to change them completely so that they do not look realistic at all.  So now what I have done is gone onto the gradient to slightly change the color before I decide to alter that actual colors of the image.

futher progress log 2.jpg

I have now gone through the options of color gradient and I have changed to have multiple different colors. The reason for why I have done that is because I want to show the different colors and tones that go into the image, with strong contrast.

futher progress log 3.jpg

Now I will begin the process of changing the colors of the image.

futher progress log 4.jpg

What I have decided to do is change the shadow to a brighter color to experiment with the colors and also to

futher progress log 5.jpg

Now I have changed the original hue of the images. Which now changes the overall atmosphere of the total image.

futher progress log 6.jpg

As you can see the image has now changed entirely, with the hue looking more saturated with color.

futher progress log 7.jpg

I have darkened the image to add more of a shadow. Overall I have used Annique's use of  color and have situated.
