For my first attempt leading up to my final piece I am going to mix my two artists that I have researched and experimented with throughout this portfolio. These two artists are named David Oldham and Nick Fancher. I have picked these two artists as they have similarities, however they also have differences. One of the similarities with both artists is that they both use cool tones in their photography. One difference between their photography is that Oldham's photography is more fun and colourful where as Fancher uses honey for example to distort the faces or to make it more eye-catching and unique as he is using different mix media during the process of taking his snapshots.

ARTISTS IMAGERY:

When researching their imagery and how they portray their meanings of identity is quite similar. However, looking at the images above I can see the difference between the colours.  In the first images you can see how strong,  harsh and dark the colours are but looking the second image gives more of an airy and tranquil feel. Fancher likes to use a variety of mix media in his photoshoots. For example, using Vaseline and smudging it on a piece of acetate or using oil but having the model wearing neutral colours. In the same vein, David Oldham does like to use different mix media such as milk or clingfilm but he likes to use bright colours. Not only that, but looking at both artists also made me realise how they use low-key lighting in their photoshoots. They do this by transforming their images into black and white. Re-creating the imagery of both artists helped me to develop new skills and how to used different mix media when taking the snapshots.

Taking all the ideas from David Oldham and Nick Fancher and the photoshoots I have taken, I have decided for my first proposition to print out my developments in the style of my artists onto pieces of acetate. By doing this I am able to figure out what compositions I would like to take towards my final piece or making sure that pictures I have chosen from my artists interlink together and make sense. I want to use the idea of a series but I want to hang them to add more of a creative feel and to make it unique and idiosyncratic. I want to hang these compositions that I am going to put together in a studio. This means I am using negative space. By putting the images on acetate will make each snapshot singular but putting them together will allow them too become one and flow into each other smoothly. To make it the composition look organised I will order them in a specific order to allow them to work well.

These contact sheet is a preview of my photoshoot for my final piece. I used a studio and a plain white background to be able to take the pictures that are hanging from the ceiling. I used low-key lighting and used a spotlight to enable the pictures on the acetate to show and be visible behind each other. I picked the pictures from my first and second photoshoot in the style of Nick Fancher. This is because they were recent photoshoots but also because the are similar and connect well with each other. I also tried to put the images in compositions that go well and does not look messy. I shot these images using a canon camera. I used two camera angle to experiment with - landscape and portrait. The photographs I have circled are successful images such as good compositions, right brightness etc. However, the images that are not circled are examples of bad composition, blurry, too close etc. Furthermore, there are some snapshots that did turn to to be successful but they are not circled. This can lead to utilizing them in the editing process. Overall, using the successful raw images and editing them just a slight bit can really make a wonderful final piece and increase my development from my first idea to the next.

FINAL OUTCOMES :

This gallery is showcasing my final outcomes for my first final piece idea - printing on acetate. To generate this final outcome, I first had to print pictures from my recent photoshoots onto pieces of A4 acetate. I then utilized some fish wire and sellotape to hang them form the ceiling. Hanging them from the ceiling enabled me to showcase the images more and create a variety of compositions. at the end of this photoshoot and looking over my snapshots, there were only minimum amount of snapshots that were successful. I experimented with the camera positions. The positions I experimented with was portrait and landscape. I also zoomed in and out in the photos to incase more on the photos. I edited these images slightly. I first opened the images of photoshop. I then used the filters from colour look-up. The filter I used on all the pictures was called Drop Blues. While adding the filter on the images, I increased the brightness to 31 and increased the contrast to 7. At the end of all the developed outcome, I cropped some images to get rid of the items and the unnecessary background. Overall, the final outcome for my first idea was a success but I want to experiment and develop even further.
