REFINEMENT

REFINING KEY THEMES THROUGH MY PORTFOLIO:

My key focus when mirroring the work of Elena Oganesyan was attempting to shoot abnormal long exposure snapshots. The compositions in which i aimed to generate expressed how many people hide their thoughts and feelings and not like to burden anyone close to them. To show that Elena Oganesyan started photography to show her feelings in a visual way instead of saying it with words. Incorporating that meaning and studying her work allowed me to play with negative space. Playing around with negative space permitted the model to be the main focal point of the image. Placing the camera in a fixed position facing the models face sanctioned the facial expressions to be prominent and tell a story. To develop me work even further I positioned the cameras further away from the face so the body can also be incorporated in the photoshoots. The purpose by changing the camera position aided me to practice my compositions reveled much more of the meaning and intertwined some sort of distortion into reality. Conceptually, Oganesyan connects through her own hidden fears and desires. Not only that, but she also advocates for many others to retain their their worries and desires disguised within themselves. This is elucidated when she shoots using long exposure. When studying her work through my portfolio I solely focus on using the technique of long exposure. However, I did add my own depiction on her work. This is shown by me using the hand holding the flower. Adding that in to the image allowed to add a meaning for example reincarnation.

I chose to focus on one main element of David Oldham work. That one main element is the use of mix media. he still focuses on portraiture but using different mix media allowed my compositions to develop but also continue on with meaning of hiding your insecurities and fears. Mix media such as cling film and fabric on the face enabled my snapshots to be unique and eminent. To expand my skills and take some elements from his work I would change the edited images from colour to black and white. Just by doing that i was bale to create an abnormal but ethereal feel to all the snapshots. The juxtaposition between both enlarges both the audiences and my intake on my work. The abnormal mood feeling more trapped and the ethereal mood being more beautiful. To further exemplify the elements of  his work I captures some pictures underwater to create a fantastical atmosphere. This allowed me to further develop my images and experiment with cool colours.

When trying to recreate Nick Fancher's work, It took me many photoshoots to experiment with many mix media.  My fist attempt was with Vaseline spread on some acetate. my second attempt was honey drips on a glass pane and my third attempt was hand sanitizer on a glass tray. All three photoshoot were a success, however both the first and third photoshoot caught my eye and are definitely successful because they both have an ethereal but unusual mood. I wanted to highlight what attracted me to his work and that was through the use of mix media and the use of the barrier form a solid object between the camera and the model. This is something I really want to incorporate into my resolved outcome. I also think the use of the solid glass pane is very intriguing because it can mean that the person is trapped in their own world and can escape and that they are going through many world of their own. Not only that but it further emphasis The importance of perspective. The camera angle and the compositions of the photographs also interlink and allows a whole different story to be made. I found it really enjoyable to work with.
