My intention for this shoot was to redraft my previous shoot, keeping in mind more, the concept of this project-gender and breaking social norms. I also aimed to create a photoshoot that was more emotive, expressive, and dynamic. In my previous shoot, I did not think clearly and this resulted in the subjects head going over the top of the backdrop in many photos. This was time-consuming and frustrating to fix - also my attempts to resolve this were not always the most successful and realistic. In retrospect, my previous photoshoot was conceptually unsuccessful. Moreover, it was important to me to have a much larger variety of photos with different poses and ambiances. One successful element of this photoshoot I believe is the lighting. I used a large softbox light, this worked well. I own two but one is broken so I only had one. I was worried this was not enough light however, I think after editing, these photos will look sufficient. Another thing that I like about these images is the poses. My main intention here was to convey this notion that gender is not binary as many would assume, rather it is a subjective and personal scale. I used inspiration from Cindy Sherman and Guy Bourdin to create expressive masculine and feminine extremities, to demonstrate this further. The most noticeable flaw of this photoshoot, in my opinion, is that many photos where I was slightly moving had motion blurs. This could have been prevented by moving slower whilst capturing the photos, but also I could have put my camera on a tri-pod, instead I placed it on a slightly uneven and wobbly surface. I also could have increased the shutter speed. I believe that I have taken all the shots that I need for this project and I intended to edit them in a style inspired by my previous artist research. I will then develop and experiment these images further in order to compose a successful final piece.
