WHY :
I chose to do a independent study in the style of Gjon Mili as I found my developments were most successful in the portfolio for him. I wanted to add my own theme of colour that I added in my last photoshoot, however also explore the use of double exposure in traffic. I found the images above very similar to what I want to achieve in my independent study as they all use the technique of double-exposure. Most of the images I want to achieve will be different to my first set of photos and Gjon Mili's usual style of photography as I aimed to use close up fireworks and coloured lighting that I would layer. I aim to also do a further set of photo's exploring B&W photos by capturing similar images with a B&W lense. Aspects of Gjon Mili's work I will try to use in my work is keeping the background visible in some developments to add the aspect of three dimensional art. Additionally, I will aim to capture B&W developments or edit my images to have similar lighting, exposure, highlights and colour corrections to his work.
HIGHLIGHTING SUCCESS OF : Gjon Mili

The success of these photos was that they each had colour and had a unusual shape, which I found successful. Moreover, they were well saturated and they include multiple hue's. What I liked was that they also had a fully black background making them appear more 2 dimensional. If I were to change something in these for my further developments in my independent project I would use the same aspects across all the photos as I think this appears better than the images all having different aspects. I would also use a different style and experiment with B&W images. A aspect that I would use from these photo's and onto my next set of photo's is capturing them in low light and adding a high contrast and low levels of light to darken the background black instead of grey. I would like to experiment with close up subjects and fireworks however I would use similar lighting that I used for these images. overall, the capturing technique I used for these photo's I would use for my Independent project.
