Unit 2 - Identity
PAUL BUTLER
Paul Butler was born in Bristol is an artist whose practice includes hosting the collage party, a touring experimental studio established in 1997, and directing the operations of the other gallery. He has exhibited at the museum of contemporary art.
Paul Butler created of series of work called 'What's Within'. He created this series by taking street photography and cutting out areas of the photographs, mainly the person in the subject. He then uses similar photographs that he has taken of the same location and layers it behind out the cut out area. in some of his works he has included several cut outs of figures, weather they are the same parson or different people it makes you think why are they included in the same image, maybe they are linked in some way by the scene. I really like the way you can make out that there is a figure there but cannot see it that clearly. It gives the sense of being there but viewing what's inside through symbolism and meaning rather than what's on the outside.
His work will inspire people to experiment the combination of printing. Combination of printing is a technique of combining two or more photographs. It looks simple to cut out the inside of the person, Paul Butler does the same he cuts out the inside of the image (the people).
you don't have too leave the inside of the person white you can add some little things in the background. You can add a brick background for example but not the whole background with the brick, you can add more images to the inside of the person so it would look better. don't add to much images to the inside of the person because it would make the image to busy and it wouldn't look that nice.
in 2009 he was invited to be consultant to the commune of Gualdo Tadino in Umbria, Italy on a major new art centre being created there in 2009-10 he also completed an art, community and literacy project working with young people from the Bethnal Green Technology collage in London. Desighning and creating the Lord Mayors Float for the comporation of London's procession.

Taking these pictures were really fun, I really enjoyed it. I like the different poses that I did in each picture. I did the photoshoot in two different places so the pictures wont be too basic. I like the lighting in these pictures and the places that I did. I feel like the backgrounds are a little too busy, but they will look nice when they are edited. For the ones that I have put an X is the ones that I didn't like because I didn't like the pose that I did and the pictures were taken too far away so you can see what's going on around the picture. When u edit the picture you can zoom in and it will make the picture better. You have to get a picture that isn't too busy for the background because if you add busy background you can really she the shape of the person in the picture.
For some of the pictures I have added objects, too make the image for interesting, it will make the image cooler. I got inspired by the objects from my last artist. When the pictures are edited you can add 3d effect which make the picture cooler. I tried to think of as many different poses as I can so the pictures wont be boring and do the different poses in different places.
the places that I did are really vibrant and colorful it makes the image stand out more. My favorite one is the one in the shade when I have my umbrella up I thought it was a really cool photo because when you cut that part out and you put a different background to it it would look amazing, But when doing that don't choose a busy background to it because you wont be able to see the outline that you cut out
EDITED PHOTOS
These edited pictures I found are really good, it was a struggle at first to edit these pictures but they turned out really good. For some of pictures they have a cool 3D effect which makes the image more interesting. I tried making the background for the person not too busy, the image would be too much and too busy. I like the places that i did the photos because they look cool when they are edited.
I mostly cut out the picture with the umbrella and added a nice background. it makes the background more bigger. I like the poses that I did, it makes the edited images really nice. The ones with the pool background make the image bright and colorful, and also with the clouds.
Some of the images I have added myself to the image just to make the images different, because in most of my images they just have a background of something else but me so I just wanted to test something out, and it turned out well.

Taking these photos were really fun. My other photoshoot was from another country so these photos are not really bright and sunny. A lot of these pictures were taken inside just to experiment it and see how it would look when its edited. I tried to do as many different poses as I can so some of the photos will be different. Some of the pictures are too zoomed out but when I edit them I can zoom them in. To not make it too boring I decided to take some pictures outside. I wanted to add the umbrella into the photoshoot again, because I thought when it is edited it will look cool, when I cut out the inside of the image it will have that large place for the background.
I also took some pictures on the stairs, I was just experimenting on how it would look and it turns out to be a good image.my favorite ones are the ones with the trees I really like the poses that I did and I also like the location that I took them, they are really cool.
The backgrounds for the photos are really nice for the inside pictures they give a vintage look because I did these photos in my flat.
EDITED IMAGES
These edited images are really amazing, I really like them. They all look really interesting. I really like the locations that I took these pictures. The poses that I did make the images look really cool when they are edited. I also decided to use the umbrella, because I like using the umbrella in my images they make the images more vibrant and colorful. These pictures are not as sunny and bright because now these pictures are done in a different place. I really like the places that I took these pictures they look really nice when the are edited.
For some of the images I have added myself to the images just to experiment how it would look and it actually look really good. Not to make all the images the same because that would be boring.
I didn't add the 3D effect because I tried to make the background a dark colour and add the outside images bright so you can still see the outlines on the the images. All of these images turned out really good and I enjoyed editing these pictures. For some of the pictures i have added a 3D effects (aka drop shadow) It gives the image a really cool look.

DEVELOPMENTS
For my further developments I have mirrored my images, They look so cool when they are mirrored, The ones that are inside on the staircase look amazing when they are mirrored, the ones on the stair case it makes the image really big. All the images look really interesting when they are mirrored. The poses that I did are really nice when the images are mirrored. Few of the images are in 3d so that have that really cool look.
The things that are in the middle of the image they really make the image very interesting it gives it a 3D look, especially the one that is in the stair case, it looks like a hole in the middle. And also the one with the lift its honestly really cool.
MANUAL CUT OUTS
cutting out these pictures were quite hard especially the ones with the umbrella, they have those little bumps. I experimented a lot while taking these pictures. I really like the backgrounds that I chose for these pictures. I have pictures of myself on the background. I layered some of the pictures and they look really good.
I tried to make some shadow for each of the images so it would have a little 3D effect. For very few of the images I just added a white background just to make some of the images different. These pictures were taken on an I phone 13 pro max so the camera quality is really good.
MIRRORED CUT OUTS
These cut out mirrored developments came out amazing, all of them look really cool in their own way. Most of the pictures have a really interesting 3D outline, because they have a shadow that is also because of the lighting. The quality of every picture is really good, and the way that I layered the images which also makes the mirrored images really cool. The images look like they have a filter on but its just the quality of the camera that is really good.
The backgrounds look really cool when the image are mirrored. The pictures that were taken inside, the mirrored images make the image really big.
