He studied at the The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, he threw himself into photography while working in crafts and focused more on the subject than prioritizing the clothing. " I'm inspired by a lot of things, by someone's face, their story, or both. Sometimes I'm just inspired by current events that I feel I need to use my platform to speak about. With my work, I'm trying to show people how there are all different types of people out there and that everyone deserves to be represented"

His work does not use low-key lighting and uses artificial light, and depending on the photo, if he uses natural lighting, he uses a label sticker to create a meaning or a statement to say something and uses it to express political topics and talk about important things that should be given more importance. His work is high-key and he uses artificial or studio lighting depending on the photo and what they say.

The backdrops are usually natural or he takes photos of them in a studio or does it outside, which can all reflect on what he is trying to present. His work overall can be comforting to people and give them confidence and the ability to be happy for who they are, as long as they are not ashamed of anything that makes them stand out from society. He chooses models who are usually not seen as perfect by agencies and are seen on building boards. For example, Gigi Hadid, who we see everywhere. He chooses people for their appearances, which he can find interesting, which makes his work standout and takes models with skin conditions, which can show that this is normal and you don't need to have perfect to seem pretty or acceptable to anyone. His work could be more respected in the future and be used as a point to respect everyone for who they are and their stories.

He is rapidly growing, and his work has an impact on people and the future because he is against retouching and tries to expose people's flaws, making others feel insecure, and he also spreads knowledge and tolerance to ordinary people in the fashion world. One of his main concerns was that people would take them as a trend and could be used by the companies to gain popularity and money, which could give them a higher ranking in the fashion world, making them seem more valuable and prestigious. We all know that huge companies only use people with disabilities or with flaws to make them look presentable so they can get higher sales and be able to make more products to gain more followers.

Photoshoot plan

Slide1.JPG

This is my photoshoot plan and I hope that can imply it into my photos and trying to present in a good way which is similar to my artist. I liked how I  have made the photoshoot plan in a scrapbook theme which can show the vibe and how his photos can reflect on what we feel when we see his work. As his work is as spectacular and as interesting it is I am hoping I make the best of it and have fun saying what I think is important and should be said in todays society and the future.

Contact sheet

peter devito contact sheet.jpg

This is my contact sheet which contains my photos which where in the style of Peter DeVito. Overall this was really fun and its was a interesting experimenting with the stickers and writing out statements on my friends face and other peoples and it was nice trying to say topics that didn't have a lot of stigma to it which made his work interesting and why I choose to take photos in his style. Hopefully for my redraft i could do more photos in the style of his work and i could think of different facial features and could zoom up on them instead of doing a whole face which could seem boring and bland. But i could of improved the lighting and the used more phrases instead and could of been more creative and could of gotten better photos.

edited developments

These are my photo developments and edited in the style of Peter DeVito. I have only used brightness and contrast as well as curve on photoshop to try to make it as natural as possible while also trying to make the edits look natural and not doing extreme edits.I have also used the healing tool which i drew over any small mistakes in my photos which can ruin the work. I have enjoyed using basic techniques just to make them seem more like I have done nothing like peter DeVito shows in his photos. The aspect I like of work were editing lighting to make sure there is more natural lighting and it looks raw ,the brightness and the curve helped by making the lighting the photos look much nicer and delicate. I could of improved the photos by maybe taking more not have done harsh curve in some of my photos or could of gotten different and try to be more creative with my work and maybe could done different photoshop technique to enhance the work and bring out its best features.

Experimenting black and white

I have done my further developments I have tried to make a collage and I made gifs which I found really interesting. I really like overall making the gifs and collaging photos on top each other making a cool piece talking about political things and topics that are discussed enough which can not give them enough acknowledge or are presented in main stream media. I could of done double exposure or mirroring but I think it wouldn't fit the aesthetic of the artist and my page I'm trying present his aesthetic but also trying to style it in a way it can be presented delightfully. I have also experimented with black and white I think is made my photos really stand out and I think it also fits in the style of the artist. I could of done more developments and I could of added more contrast to my work but overall this was a successful further development and I enjoyed this piece.

Redraft contact sheet

Redraft contact sheet identity 1.jpg

I have made my redraft contact sheet and I try to make it about different topics as my last set of photos were about race I decided to do the lgbtq+ community as it is as a huge topic and is still being discriminated even if you are a person of colour and is apart of the lgbtq+ community. Personally I could improve by maybe taking more photos or having take them in different angle or could of think of more slogans instead of them being just bland. But I think I have improved of taking them in different angles . I think when I do my next artist and when I think about there angles and their style of work I can try to improve that I missed now.

 Redraft Edited Developments

I have edited my redraft developments. Talking about the LGBTQ+ as it is also a important topic which is not discussed about  frequently. I really liked the edit was simplistic while also making it in the style of Peter Devito as he does not create work using black and white on photoshop and goes for a more natural and subtle. I could improve by saying different statements or could of gotten more inclusive the camera angle or maybe asked my other friends to help out or taking more photos.I have also used the healing tool which i drew over any small mistakes in my photos which can ruin the work.

I have done my redraft further developments I have made collages, gifs and made my photos black and white .For the collages I have gotten my redraft further developments on photoshop and selected them and placed them onto one another and made the photo smaller. For my gifs I have imported them into gif maker and selected the speed. Personally I loved the gif cause they were fun to make and they look very nice. For my final further developments I have made black and white further developments which gave them the a good contrast and I liked how it was really nice and very interesting. I really liked these further developments and I have felt like I have improved from my last set of developments.

Process log

Process log 2.jpg
process log 3.jpg
process log 4.jpg

I have made a process log showing all my steps for editing my photos in the style of Peter DeVitoAs it is shown I first used the curve tool which I drew to make the photo look brighter and shaper. My next step was to use brightness and contrast to make the photo have more tonal range and try to expand the highlights. As then I used the vibrate tool and edit the opacity to make the photos look nice even thought it has a filter. My final step was now to save the file as a jpg and name it Peter Devito development _(number)

Highlighting success

Peter devito development 1.jpg

For my highlighting success I have chosen one of my favourite photos from Peter DeVito and using my friend as the model for this photoshoot. I have chosen it because I loved how it was interesting and, as a person of the Muslim faith, I loved how I can include my religion and get proper recognition instead of being known as a woman who is oppressed and getting a lot of hate for my belief. I also loved using different techniques in Photoshop to make the image brighter and show more details instead of it being dark and dull, which gives it a horrible contrast and it doesn't look nice. Since I want to create a new identity and make it have a positive outcome on everyone and get a proper representation in the media.
