ARTIST ANALYSIS -
SERRAH RUSSEL
This piece of art work is by Serrah Russell. Serrah Russel focuses on forest and the environment around which is mostly of trees and bushes. In her images she takes picture of nature and mixes them together to create one beautiful image. Serrah's work is nature and a little bit of portraiture. My instant reaction of Serrah work is that it almost reminds me of my previous artists Gerhard Richter and Shilpa Gupta and how they use landscapes and a series of edits for one image. The work of Serrah Russell makes me feel fascinated to takes images in the style of Serrah's work. Her work is of pictures of landscapes over the top of one another and some of her images have people over the top of landscapes. In Serrah's images i'm not sure what techniques she is using but they make her work look fantastic. Her work is like my previous two artist Gerhard Ritcher and Shilpa Gupta. Serrah's work relates to the project of identity as she i thinks she trying to shows how how and what she is as a person in her images and the props she uses. When i take my images in the style of Serrah I will be using day-light. If i had the opportunity to ask Serrah a question i would ask, What made you get into doing photography for a living? In my opinion i actually think the work Serrah does is pretty amazing and stunning.

CONTACT SHEET (1) RAW IMAGES

My intentions for this shoot was to capture images of trees and woodland in the style of Serrah Russell. These images were taken in Holland park and Reagents park. For this shoot i had to print out my images then fold them into different shapes and sizes inspired by my artist. In my images i think the composition of my images and the lighting were successful. In my images some unsuccessful elements were in many of my pictures i captured the table in the background and in some of my images the came out quite blurry. If i got the opportunity to capture i would take my images again when the camera is in focus. I believe i have all the images i need for Serrah Russell.
DEVELOPMENTS EXPERIMENTING WITH COLLAGE AND LIGHTING

In my images I have made them brighter as my images came out quite dark. I done this because in Serrah's work her images are bright. I done this by drawing with the dodge tool to make the background lighter and i also done this by making the brightness higher and the contrast. I chose to use this technique as i think it made my work look like Serrah's work. I'm not sure how Serrah's work fits in to my project but her work is interesting. I like the aspects of how I folded m images into shapes to capture images so it looks like one images. I think i could improve my work by taking more images of different trees and forest from different angles. Next i will take another photoshoot and build on what i have already done.
Further double exposure developments

In these further developments I have double exposed my images together to make my work. I done this to refine my previous edits as they a bit boring. I done this by using the C and V key to copy and paste two of my images onto photoshop. I chose to double expose my images together as i thought it would look good. I like the aspects of how the trees intertwine together. Next I will experiment with different photoshop tools.
FURTHER DEVELOPMENTS - EXPERIMENTING WITH CUTTING AND DROP SHADOWS

In these further edits i have refined on what i have done already. In these edits i have drew with the polygonal tool to draw almost holes in my work . In my work i also drew with the burn tool, I also used a layer style ( inner shadow) to make the dark holes really stand out. I chose to do this as had never used the polygonal tool to draw holes into my work. This works fits in with our project as the type of landscape symbolises your identity. I like the aspects of how there's a layer behind the top layer and how the bottom layer is in black and white which really makes it stand out. I could improve this wor by maybe next mirroring the images or double exposing them together.
EXPERIMENTING WITH MIRRORING

In these edits I have took refined my previous edit of experimenting with cutting and drop shadows. I done this by using the C and V keys. I also done this by cropping it to make it bigger by using the crop tool. I chose to use the technique to experiment with mirroring . I like the aspects of how in my edits the holes are mirrored and in some of the edits their touching so it makes it look like one big hole.
COLLAGE SCANS

In these further development i have took images of my hand cut pictures. I then went on photoshop and then made the curve brighter. I done this to build on my edits to show all my experiments for Serrah Russell. I done this as this will play apart for my final piece. I like the aspects of how the edit looks really simple when really it took some time. I could maybe improve this work by experimenting with the contrast or the colour look up. I will focus on my final piece which will link to this exact work.
