Angelo Lamparelli

Angelo Lamparelli

Angelo Lamparelli born in the south of Italy. However he lives and works in Milano. He is a photographer whose interest is in visual and performing arts which is what led him to expressing fashion photography. He is known to collaborate and partner with international fashion brands, magazines and creative agencies for editorial or commercial shooting. I am very interested in the series that Angelo had captured in Portugal for Vogue Portugal commonly known as Lucy Adamik for vogue Portugal, Poetry of material things. I find this series of his work very relaxing and soothing as it has connotations of being a very peaceful time. The work he produced is a very simple, and minimalist type of photography. I believe with something that simple it can turn into  something even more aesthetically pleasing. The simplicity of this series makes me in awe and very tranquil. I  feel  that this piece is about finding beauty behind a piece of  fabric suggesting that behind the clothes people wear no matter what they are dressed in or no matter what their body shape is, there is always a beauty behind that to be found. I believe that they are hiding the truth from the real world and not expressing themselves, because they don't want to be judged by the cruel society of todays world. As well as that I believe that this could also be them hiding from the truth whereas other may be having the time of their lives which is why it makes such a big effect as these type of images could create all types of feelings towards how the image can make you feel. The photo on the right shows Lucy Adamik modeling behind a piece of thin, see-through white laced cloth. In this image the eye catching part of it is how the fabric has been pushed away graciously by her arm and how the wind is shaping the cloth whist Lucy is modeling. The whole beauty of the image is how the white cloth has been presented and the movements that is shown during the capturing of the image with the white lace. In this photoshoot I think that the images captured were captured with different levels of apreture's  to create a diverse collection of images some more in focus and some out of  focus. In these images the eye is naturally drawn to the model and the fabrics movement that has been able to be captured by the camera.

How will I be influenced by this photographers work when planning and taking my own photos?

I am influenced by Angelo Lamparelli to be able to capture my images in the style of an example magazine page. Angelo Lamparelli is known for his work collaborated with different magazines. which is one reason when thinking about my final piece I will be able to use the idea of a magazine page however knowing the style of my chosen artists I will be keeping my editing fairly simple and keeping the magazine ideas very limited and simple as his work is very simple and elegant which is what I am planning to have as a result of this artists page.

Angelo lamparelli does his images in a different and  contrasting way. which makes his work even more interesting to look at. His work makes a lot of emotions show through. The series I am mainly focusing on has a tranquil and soothing vibe to it. Commonly known as the poetry of material things, for Portugal Vogue. Collaborated with the  model Lucy Adamik. In the image on the right you can see an exampler of what type of work i will be taking my inspiration out of. This image on the right shows Lucy modelling for the shoot, However, Angelo has added an unusual aspect into the image. Which is commonly known as a white thin laced fabric. This use of this material makes different feelings occur when looking at the image and the use of the fabric. The use of the fabric. During the photoshoot of poetry of material things, I believe that the  main focus when capturing the image was not to capture just a boring and simple image with a women and a piece of material but was to express something using the material piece to make that expression possible to understand.

1. For my first photoshoot I had gotten my model to be in some comfy clothing to make the mood of the images more tranquil and seeming as if my model was wearing tight and uncomfortable clothes the images would not flow and look like  the model and the fragile piece of fabric was not meant tp be together as they present two different moods. I had found many coloured pieces of fabrics in my house brought them into the photography studio and shot some images using a model who was able to know how to pose and use the fabric to make the images even more effective as I had showed her some examples of the work I was inspired by.

ContactSheet-004.jpg

2. This photoshoot was very fun and interesting to capture as it allowed me to see what type of camera settings would be more efficient and whether to use a slower shutter speed to be able to capture the movements of the fabrics or a faster shutter speed to be able to capture certain points of the movements of the materials that were used to capture this photoshoot. The images that have been circled are the images that I believe that have been my most successful images out of all of them as they have speciefic reasons why and I  will use these circled images to create my developed images experimanting with black and whte and double exposure

Experimenting with black and white

The images above are a series of photographs I edited in the style of Angello Lamparelli. To get me thinking about how to edit the images I observed the detailing of the artists editing and the way in which he presents his images. I tried out different techniques and styles to edit the images until I found the perfect way to edit them. To edit the images, I increased the brightness and contrast to around 70. I then increased the curve abit to make the images come out a bit lighter. Additionally, I increased the saturation to present the colours of the fabric as more vibrant. The element of my work I am most proud of is the way in which I edited the images to have them replicate the work of Angello Lamparelli.

Double Exposed Edits

To make these images I had used my previously edited black and white photo shoot to create these out of.  I had used photo shop in able to do some double exposure  edits to make my photos have a little more something to them. I believe my images have become a lot more stronger with how i have been able to use my editing skills in able to edit these images. I believe my most successful images out of these are the images that seem as if there is no double exposure has been used. During the process of making these images i had tried many types of different double exposure layer to see which one made the images look more realistic and not fake. These photos have been developed in many ways to make them better than the originally taken images. Even through the originally taken images are quite simple and  boring I have found ways to play around with the simplicity and turn it into something else something unusual. I had tried many different ways of how the brightness and contrast was working to be able to make the image pop even more than a plain black and white image with no bling to it.

Experimenting with composition

ALEDECS1_edited.jpg
ALEDECS2.jpg

These photos are my most successful images from my first photo shoot inspired by the  photographer Angelo Limperelli. I  believe these images are successful as images themselves as they have become more unrealistic with a flash of realism to them. They all have a special thing to them that makes them look really effective. I  believe thses images were successful because even though they came from simple and ordinary images they have been developed into something that catches the eyes of people as they are very unusual images to be seeing. This is because the images show a girl whose trying to hide herself  from her reality yet cannot physically do so and is still being exposed by everyone. I believe i somehow identify to the meanings that could be seen through these images that i have been able to capture with the help of my emotional and expressing model. I had many different movements I had asked my model to pose in many different ways in able to show a story through what I was able to capture to make my images have way more meaning to them rather than them being unemotional and  ordinary. I love creating something else that people haven't really seen in the world of today expressing stuff that others are to scared to express and showing things that others are afraid of being wide open  and shown.

Process Logs for Developments

Process log 1 - Brightness, Curve , Black &White

Process log 1.jpg

The first step of creating my black and white double exposure images are to select the options of black and white to make the images B&W. After selecting each way how the colours should be lightened or darkened, I used the option of changing the brightness and the contrast of the image to make it more effective. As well as the Brightness and Contrast option I used the curve to be able to change the settings of the colours in the images.

Process log 2 - Double Exposing the quick selected image

The second thing I did in editing these images was  ensuring that the brightness, contrast and B&W were all done and flattened  all into one image to make it easier to quick select. After that i quick selected this image, Copied and pasted it onto the same canvas to ensure that I can double expose it. After copying and pasting the image onto itself I have to turn the image around using  Ctrl T  to select the image to move a whole 180* . After that I had selected the

Process log 2.jpg

Process log 3 - Changing Brightness and contrast once more

Process log 3.jpg

Once I had done the double exposured level I jumped in again and started changing around the brightness and contrast to try and change the image and it's looks to make it stand out more and make it more visible and have a little kick to the end goal which is the appearance of the final image that has been edited.

Process logs final Results

Process log Results.jpg

This is my final image that has been created from these edits I have done and experimented with. I believe with editing the images the way I have I've shown that I can turn such a simple photograph that was taken into something so interesting and somewhat different to other types of photographs. This is why my work may stand out as it can be seen as unoriginal and that's what I look to do in my portfolio as I believe arts of all sorts have their own quirkiness like this image has.

Futher Developments from Photoshoot 1

These images are the same way edited like shown in the process log above. However, I have not only used some double exposing techniques but I have also done some experimenting with some mirroring of the double exposure I have made edits from. In my opinion these images are successful however, I believe that they are not as original and yet as simple as the images produced above which makes me acknowledge for suture edits I shouldn't go all out on trying to edit such a simple yet sophisticated  image.

As well as that these images could be used for many things I believe that they do represent my thought behind what identity can be seen as in photography. These images represent that because they show a girl hiding behind a cloth which in my opinion represents the reality of life and its hiding the girls true self from the world and that she's only allowed to share some parts of her not all of her otherwise the cloth can get cut and everyone will see her true self who has been hiding under it for years and has yet still found ways to not show that anything is bothering her in her life.

This significance to the images are really powerful and personal to me as I am known as a person to holding myself back from the truth and hiding away the truth from others so that they cant judge me for who I am.

Contact Sheet

RedraftContactSheet-002.jpg

The image to the left is my second contact sheet in the style of Angelo Lamparelli. My intentions behind my second photo shoot was to try and capture more images in the style of Angelo Lamparelli. I took the images from that specific angle and with that type of scenery behind to make it look more like the work of my artist. The images were taken on a Nikon D7000 and on a high aperture on an f-stop 8 to capture the whole portrait. This allowed me to be able to include the whole background. This made it easier for me to edit the images and will allow me to sew onto the images more effectively. Additionally, I took the images in Holland Park and in the direction of sunlight but where it wasn't took bright and unfocused the image. Throughout this second photo shoot, once again I experimented with angles to find the way in which best captured my model and the background. The most successful element of this photo shoot was taking the images on a wide aperture because I was able to do it effectively after my first photoshoot. The second successful part of my photoshoot was using a different model and different clothing and material colour which was my weakness from my first shoot.

Developments - exploring colour lookup

For these sets of developments I have edited them ever so slightly in able to capture the focuses of the images themselves. The use of this type of editing has made my photographs more vivid and soothing as the colours come out as a dusty dirty colour. I believe these images are successful because the have a very simple look to them which is why they are so good because my artists works are very simple and laid back with the way the his images end up looking like.  These colour - lookup images are a strong part of my project to be able to experiment with different type of  colours and style's. These edits have been edited using the app photoshop to be able to ensure that I can edit them properly and to make the images look more professional and edited in a very simple yet sophisticated way. This is done so that I can show I have gained understanding of my first chosen artists and how his work is presented and is shown as a image as well as how they can be framed .

Most Successful Edits

These sets of edits are from my second developed photoshoot, I believe that these edits came out to be the strongest out of all of the above as they show aspects of my artists but also show that I am thinking of how turn my artists work into my very own style of work. which is why they are so strong as they show that I am trying to use my own style of photography whilst gaining inspiration by my artists. They are also stronger as the editing itself is very simple laid back contrast and brightness editing because I don't want my images to look overedited and as a result look surreal rather than realistic.

For this photoshoot I have found that AGRE9.jpg is my most successful edit out of my highlighted images and for my further developed photoshoot I will be primarily focusing on using the idea of the fabric being draped from the models head on one end and on the other end being draped from the cameras lens. This is because I am trying to experiment with different ideas and styles related to my artists but into my own line of work to show I am thinking of how to develop my understanding and my work.

Black & White Edits

I have decided to do some black and white edits to create a higher contrast between the highlights and the shadows in my original edited colourful images. These images are strong because they are Black and white which shows and is used to show that the simplest of things can be the most eye capturing as they are too overdone which is why I like editing my images in black and white as it can be taken as a Statement of how simple yet elegant the actual image is without being edited.

Futher Developments from Black & White & Colour

These edits I have created because I am trying to make the focus go onto the fabric rather than the background of the person. This is to make my images more strong and to show that I have been able to think of ways to make my work even more successful and more developed. I have used quick select to select the part i want to not have in colour and press inverse to do the opposite. These aren't the best edits out from this photoshoot as they are not as strong as my others as they don't relate with my artists and what my current ideas for my project are.

Process Log

Process log 1.jpg

For this step I have selected the models body using quick select to be able to do the next few steps

For this step I have used the selected par of the image and selected black and white to change the colours of the model to make the fabric stand out more efficiently and to try and experiment with different styles and techniques of editing in photography.

Process log 2.jpg
Process log 3.jpg

After I had selected a part of the image and turned it to black and white I have decided to use change around the contrast and brightness to make the image colours stand out and be visible. In order to make the image itself more visible and more simplistic.

Results

This is my final result of my process log example of how I have produced those edits above. The reasons why I have created these images is to be able to show and  explain how I can use different range of editing techniques in order to experiment with my type of edits and to be able to show that I like to experiment with different styles of edits and techniques in order to make my work even more interesting and not too plain. I believe that small yet eye capturing edits make my work even more powerful because it helps peoples focus go onto one thing other than 1,000 things at once. This edit beside here is a very boring yet interesting images as Black and white is normally known to be a boring type of way to go yet can still be a statement.

Process log Result.jpg

Double Exposure

I have created these images as a result of experimentation with different editing techniques and styles of how to use photoshop. I had decided to double expose/image blend with the same image just in a different angle. i have made them all with colour instead of experimenting with black and white double exposure as I believe that the colours make the images more interesting and eye catching to the viewers of the pieces of work . To be able to create these images I had to Draw on my quick select tool and Ctrl C the whole image then press Ctrl V to paste the image over the same image, after that we turn the image 180* degrees or flip the image the other angle round to create the double exposure after turning the images I went to the image blending tool and choose the type of double exposure I would like to use.

For this further developed photoshoot I had taken inspiration from one of my previous photoshoots ideas. I tool inspiration from my image AGRE9.jpg to be able to capture the next set of images and edits below. For this photoshoot I had captured images of my models head being draped by a piece of fabric by one end and on the other end my camera lens being draped by the fabric as well to have the feeling of actually both the camera and the model both being hidden from reality and being hidden from the real truth of the world itself. This skill shows how I as a photographer is thinking of how I can incorporate in my own idea of Hidden Truth into my experimentation of working with an artists idea and turn it into my own type of photography. I have learnt a lot from this photoshoot. What I have learnt may just be simple but I have learnt that you must always look and experiment with different angles of the camera and positions for the model to be at.

Experimenting with brightness and contrast

These edits are done ever so slightly. I have just edited the original photos. these images relate to my artist Angelo Lamprilli as they bring fabric into the type of image it is. I have used the idea of Lamprillis to work with fabrics to create a simple yet eye catching images, These edits have been ever so slightly edited with the brightness and contrast of them to make the colours within the images pop and shine through. I have created these images to make a base of all my other edits I will base on these edited images above. To edit these images I have used adobe photoshop to be able to do these techniques of increasing the brightness and contrast with the setting however also using the curve and increasing or decreasing it depending on the look of the images. I have done this type of editing to critique my artists and his style of editing that can be visually seen rather than told. In this work there is my model and camera on each end of the fabric being draped by the fabric to create the affect of seeing the inside of something that has been for closed and unseen by the world. in these images there are 2 focuses many people may focus on the model and their facial expressions or they could focus on the details and colours being shown by the fabrics being draped by the head of the model and the camera itself. These images have a lot of visual elements to it when it comes to the angles the caera is shooting from the tones of the faces and fabrics clashing together.

Black and White Futher Developments

For these edits I had decided to Draw on the black and white tool to make my images more interesting as now without the colour the imagination of human will go even rather to imagine what the image must look like when it comes to the tones, shadows and lighting. I believe that these images are very strong as they fit with my theme of Hidden truth as not only are the models hidden the colours of the actual images have been withheld so therefore the images become more intriguing as they show many different views and ideas within them when you look at them and spend some time thinking about what's really happening to the person being draped by a thin piece of patterned fabrics that has stories to tell within themselves.

Further Developments - Double Exposure

For these edits I decided to do double exposure to experiment further. I drew on the quick select tool and Ctrl C the whole image then press Ctrl V to paste the image over the same image, after that we turn the image 180* degrees or flip the image the other angle round to create the double exposure after turning the images I went to the image blending tool and choose the type of double exposure I would like to use. I choose to work with double exposure to see how my images would transform into. However , I believe that only like 2-4 of these edits came out looking nice and simple. This is because my artists of Angelo Lamprilli has a very simple look to his work and for me to be able to stay within the breaches of being simple yet eye-catching I cannot go and overedit my currently edited images.

Black & White Double Exposure

or these edits I had used the previously made double exposures but Drew on the black and white edit option. I did this to experiment even further with my images and with the idea of simplicity riding along my inspiration from my artists I wanted to experiment on how the Double Exposure would look if I were to turn the edits into Black & White. This idea of double exposure does kind of go with my theme of double exposure because the person is ever more hidden yet there's two of them therefore no one knows which one is the real one the one that catches our eyes the most or the one that's hidden even more than the rest. In these edits the aspects that I like is that they look very simple yet they have a lot of meaning to them rather than just being a boring black and white images of a person standing there which could also be an affective image to capture however that would not go with the theme of my portfolio.

Step 1 :

Process Log

Process log 1.jpg

Step 1 :

First thing that I have done is Taken my first developed images with colour and have draw on the black & White tool to be able to turn my images into black and white images.

Process log 2.jpg

Step 2 :

To be able to develop them even more and have Drawn quick select to then select the image. Once image selected I press Ctrl C to be able to copy the image

Process log 3.jpg

Step 3 :

After pressing Ctrl C to be able to copy the image I press Ctrl V to be able to paste the image onto the other and flip the image by 180* degrees to be able to have them on the opposite looks of each other.

Process log 4.jpg

Step 4 :

One I have completed that I Draw on the image using the image blending tool to start my double exposure and once opening the image blending tool I have to Choose the one that looks more simple yet eye-catching.

These images from the 3 of my photoshoots have shown to be the strongest point of this artists page as I have developed my own ideas from the artists even further and have been able to learn and work around a range of different techniques to be able to capture these images fully. I believe that they are all successful images as not only do they all have a uniquely interesting look to them they also can also have very interesting  meaning behind them all as they all have very weird yet simple yet eye-catching feelings to them which is why I believe that they are my most successful images for this whole page .
