Unit 2: Identity

Hilly Ven Eerten

Hilly Van Eerten was a dutch women-artist and was born in 1957 in Nijverdal, Netherlands and she does lots of different things like digital art, printmaking, lithography, graphics and collages. She started her education in 1986 in Utrecht at the school of fine Art. In 1993 she moved to Amsterdam where she still lives today and continues to create these amazing images. Her work focuses n all the different architecture that she sees and all the different objects. During her last year years, she focused on fine print work.
One reason why I really like Hilly Van Eerten's work is because there are a lot of different colours and architecture in her images. Another thing that I really like about this artist is that she is able to make something so boring and colourless into something really fun and interesting to look at.One reason why I really like her images is because she creates lots of really simple shapes which makes her images look more fun and simple/easy to do. Another reason why I really like her work is because she prints out her images and puts ink on top of them and this then makes her images look more like a painting than a picture and I find that really fascinating.
The meaning behind putting ink on top of her images is to show everyone that everything around has colour even if at first it looks really dull and boring. She also wanted to show everyone that it doesn't matter what things looks like at first and you can make them look better, this should also apply to everyone else as you should not just judge what you can see it should be the inside that counts.

I also find it really interesting that her images look a lot like Sven Pfrommer and Daniella Zalcman as all these three artist create images that pop out at you and that are filled with lots of different architecture and shapes. Sven Pfrommer also adds ink to his images just like Hilly van Eerten and both of them look really abstract as they both use ink to go over their work and it makes the images look really fun and interesting. All three of these artists also use a variety of different colours which makes the images pop out more and look more interesting. She also uses lots of different development techniques as it makes her images more fun, for example she double exposes her images.
Another thing that has really intrigued me about her work is that she takes her images in long shot as the she is able to capture the whole image of all the different buildings and cranes, and she has also made sure that she has positioned her camera in lots of different angles and not just in the middle as it would be quite boring and you will not be able to see the whole building.
Hilly van Eerten has also made sure that when she has taken her images her is natural lighting as she will be taking her images outside and if it is to dark the images will not turn out as good as it could be.
All of her different image have really inspired me to try and create some really amazing and interesting images and I can not wait to see how all my images and developments turn out and I really hope that my images turn out as good as Hilly van Eerten's images as I find her work really interesting.
Artist Statement-(From the Internet)
"How I work? It is in my view a kind of spatial collage art in several layers I create my digital prints by fusing, combining and mixing together selected images form my photos, in different digital layers. So there grows a new destillated image. That's how I work and create.
I like very much to mix, fuse and combine the images, but only! from my own photos. Because I first need to experience and feel the contact. It is this meeting between my eyes and the city, before being able to re-work and edit my visual material.
This is the source for creating my recent digital print art - and also my former mono-print art before 2015. That's also why my digital art always contains different layers and colors.
The subjects for my photography I find in the Dutch large cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and The Hague. In 2015 I started to make my graphic art in a digital way. I made them from my photos of modern architecture, street scenes and building activities."

To capture these images I have walked around and took lots of images of buildings and cranes that fits in well with my artist. To create these images I have positioned my camera in lots of different angle so I was able to capture the whole image. As I was taking these images I also made sure that the lighting was right as this could have caused some problems in my images and you will not be to see my images. for my third set of developments I have mirrored them by first extending the canvas, then copying and pasting my images to the part that I had extended, and it created these really interesting and amazing images, which I find really interesting because it looks like the image has been completed and more fascinating, and I did this using the media photoshop. I also enjoy these images because the colours are really bold, which I find fascinating. I also really like the fact that this fits in well with my artist as her images are also really chaotic with lots of different things happening.

I'm pretty pleased with my fifth set of developments because I've managed to come up with some genuinely stunning photographs. First, I've widened the canvas for one of my photographs. I then obtained two additional photographs and copied and pasted them into the section that I had extended, resulting in some very nice images. The purpose of these developments is to show you all of the numerous ways that I can place these photographs and to demonstrate how unique and interesting each of these individual images is. Another reason why I have also done this is so that you are able to see the strengths and weakness of all my images and what I need to improve for my redraft developments.
Tracing paper

Annotations
I'm pretty pleased with how my further developments have turned out because I was able to produce some really fascinating photographs. First, I printed out my images on tracing paper, then I layered two images on top of each other and photographed the result. I did this because I find it fascinating, and it makes my page look more interesting to the human eye, and it makes all of the different architecture stand out even more than before. Another reason why I have done this is because it make all the different lines and patterns pop out at you which I also find really fascinating.

I am really impressed with how my second set of developments have turned out as I have managed to create some really fascinating images. Firstly what I have done is gotten my first set of developments and using the media photoshop I have turned them all into black and white. I have done this as you are able to clearly see all the different patterns and different lines in the images as you will not be able to see it as clearly when the image is in colour and it also makes the image stand out more. Another reason why I am really pleased with these images is because you are able to see the whole image and not just one part of it.

I am really fascinated with how my final set of developments have turned out as I have managed to create really interesting images. Firstly what I have done is gotten three images that I have already developed, I have then extened the canvas on both sides of the image, finally I have copied and pasted the two other image onto the part that I have extened creating these fascinating developments. I have also done this so I can explore the different compositions that I am able to position all of my different images in. Another reason why I have done this is so you can clearly see the difference between all of my different images and so you can also see what is good and bad about it.
