New Set Of Developments

Photoshoot Plan

For another set of ideas, I decided to take photographs from new places that I haven't visited in London for my work. I plan to go to Tate Modern and captured images from inside the building to get a view of London and take photographs from the outside of the buildings. Doing this, there were other similar landmarks nearby such as the Shard. Other towering buildings were near Tate Modern, with the surroundings of glass.

My aim was to capture more photographs than I have ever done, this is because I could show the developments throughout my raw images itself. This also shows that I am adapting to my original work with the newer ways of editing such as taking more images. When taking more photographs, the amount of contact sheets produced will also increase showing that I will challenge myself with editing more images.

After I took the images, I created a board on WE COLLECT and once I have the availability of photoshop, I could begin to start my editing. Overall I think that while capturing the photographs I can start to think about  how I am going to edit these images. Whether it will be converted to black & white? If I have to change the opacity and tone of each of the images? Or being able to add colour?

I think that overall the images that I have captured, was successful. This is because I related my work to Daniella Zalcman, Idris Khan and Jasper James showing a link throughout my photographs. In Idris Khan's work, he captures landmarks in London and other areas, Daniella Zalcman edits and double exposes them and mirrors together, and Jasper James does high key edits using a view from the window and a model.

Contact Sheets

Another idea I chose to do for my final piece was to capture a new set of images from places such as Tate Modern and other landmarks such as The Shard. This is the most I have captured images of, as for the final piece ideas, I decided to take different images from a new location. As for my other images I have visited the same location, so for my final piece idea I chose some place in the UK where you can get a view of London and other landmarks nearby. The edits will be done in both high key and low key lighting. This will be done on photoshop where I can make some of these images black and white. My overall aim is to show a variety of images in different themes, some done in borders and others edited using simple borders on the websites. By the end of these photographs, my target is to make these images similar to Idris Khan and Jasper James, this is because I want to show the developments between both artist and link my work to both photographers.

First Set of Edits

For my first set of developments, I edited the images and made them black & white. After doing this I copied and pasted the same photograph and mirrored the image over the original photograph. When copying the image, I used the keys on the computer (Ctrl C then Ctrl V to paste after Ctrl T to move the image around.) In these photographs the thing that I liked the most was how the images didn't come out as black but had a grey tone from the background, as a result the overall outcome was a mirrored image. This reminded me of a reflection on a river. However with some of the other photographs, I used a different edited image and overlayered the first photo with the second image creating a photograph with a lot of sense going around it. This related to the topic of identity as I decided to focus my work on the surroundings and how identity relates to me as someone who has lived in London her entire life. However I think that for future reference, for example if I were to do another set of developments, I would relate my work to Jasper James and take portrait images and double expose them onto images similar to the ones above.

Further developments

For my further developments, I used a model to double expose my edited building photographs with the model. In the process, I captured a few raw images of my model and made each image black & white. After doing this I began experimenting the different ways I could overlay the image. What I like most about these images is that I managed to edit them with the building differently and give them a unique affect. In some of these images, I made it look like the building was printed over the model whereas others look like she is surrounded by the buildings. I attempted to try something different for example, I copy and pasted the same photograph and made the image look like it has a reflection and there has been an increase in size within the images. I think what would make these images more interesting to view is that I could have give these photograph a hue and change colours making it more bright and exciting. However as this work links to identity, the things that remind me of London is darkness and how the weather is mostly windy and raining all the time.

Highlighting success

I think that these images were the ones that I was most proud of. This is because I have never edited my images in this new form and had attempted to try something different.
