CONCEPT FOR MY FINAL PIECE
My concept for my final piece is to capture and create work that includes all of my artists, that concludes of using collage, deformity and sculpture. I really want to obscure the artists into one solid final idea, where I can project all the work I have done and show how far my creative skills can go, resulting in forming ideas together and being able to express myself and my chosen artists through my images. I will experiment with all type of different kinds of methods. Especially origami and sculpting. As its new and I would definitely try different experiments with it. The first experiment that I have in mind is to print old developments from my 3rd artist, Jean Faucheur, and start creasing the pages and folding them scrunching them ( similar to what I did with my 4th artist Aldo Tolino ). The 2nd experiment that I want to try is origami, the simplest form was to try to make a chatterbox out of my printed images and maybe make a couple where I would then tie them all together and take images of them. The final idea I had was to further experiment with the origami and try create some strange sculptures or shapes and have the background as a body where the face is covered by the portrait origami.
ORIGINAL SCANNED WORK - FINAL PIECE
These images are the original developments from my previous artist. The images were scanned from thorough developments where I then uploaded them to my drive, edited them on photoshop to refine the texture and contrast of the images. The way that I created these images was I used a ormal plain image that I took and over layered it with another image, the linear ones I cut single pieces and glued them onto the image. The circular one's were slightly harder to create and be able to adjust in place accurately, even so I think they look good.
EXPERIMENTING WITH SCANS - OVERLAY
I experimented with these images using image blending and mirroring of images, instead of printing out the images and folding them like I did previously. These developments are experimental attempts of creating different styles and types of work, whilst also maintaining them same idea throughout developing these images.
EXPERIMENTING WITH FORM - PHOTOGRAPHIC SCULPTURES
These structures or chatterboxes as they are known as, give a deeper input into the character and features of these developments that I printed. These images were from my past artist, Aldo Tolino. I used a simple algorithm of folding to create these structures, I folded some of them in-reverse so that the image is more noticeable on the back instead of the front.
DEVELOPING MY SCULPTURES - EXPLORING DOUBLE EXPOSURE
These images are cut up, I focused the camera on the cut up lines to show the detail. The background image (the one below) was layered with a different image to portray the difference in the composition and colouring of the image.
HIGHLIGHTING SUCCESS
FINAL PIECE OUTCOME
These are my final pieces for my identity project. These images were created by editing my 'chatter box' structures and using the double exposure image blending tool, colour look up and mirroring technique. To mirror the images, I used the quick select tool and drew across the canvas to select it, I then copy and pasted it and rotated the image to mirror it on top, this is a process explored throughout my portfolio. I also used the colour look up filter to change the colours to create a more vintage 'film' aesthetic which I think works well. After printing my images, I created a collage from one of my edits to link back to my 3rd artist. I think what is interesting about my final piece is that the images have gone on a journey from collage inspired by David Hockney, to being cut up, then transformed into a 3D structural form. The focus on my project was about concealing identity through physical and digital manliputation, which is something I look at through each artist. Overall, I'm content with the outcome I have created and I think combines my artists well together. If I were to improve my work, I would print off another edit and lay the chatter boxes on top so that you have a more colourful edit - as mine are currently very minimalistic (though this links to Jean Faucheur).
